Jammin' at Voodoo

Monthly Live Jam Session (last Thursday of the month) at The Voodoo Rooms with some of Scotland's leading musicians playing lounge grooves from many genres. Catch Blues, Soul, Funk, Ska, Rock and Reggae...sometimes even Jazz & Country. There's decent valve amps, a tight sound system and musicians play by invitation to set a good standard. Recent guests have included Jerry Donahue, Neil Warden, Stevie Hay and Sliding Dave Dixon. Usually a Thursday, late in the month. The sessions are arranged by Rod Kennerd who plays bass with Stevie Hayes's Band and Ash Gupta, Guitarist and leader of Kool Vibration, Scotland's top Roots Reggae ensemble featuring Phil Soltau from Kingston on Keys.

This month we are showcasing two very special local musos whom you will all know, and unearthing a ghost from the 80's band OMD.

The GTs are Graham Weir & Tudor Morris, men with musical pedigrees as extensive as they are varied. Despite their day jobs surrounded by highbrow classical musos (Tudor is Director of The City of Edinburgh Music School and Graham is Head of Music at Napier University), they’re 2 guys who look forward to weekend bar gigs like Ashley Cole looks forward to an away game. With a mix of soul, blues and funk - + a soupçon of Deuchars IPA – the GTs have built a solid following in some of the city’s best music bars over the past 2 years. It’s a long way from when they first started; Graham toured and recorded all over the world as member of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) throughout the 1980s, playing horns, guitar and keyboards, as well as performing with artists from Wet Wet Wet to Van Morrison to Jack Bruce. Tudor has appeared as a session guitarist and producer on various professional projects, setting up the BRIT School in London, the performing arts school that produced Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis and many more.

They’re looking forward to jammin’ at the Voodoo on any number, as long as it’s not by Robbie Williams.

The house band will feature Andy Munro on Drums, and Rod Kennard on base.
