American film-noir/avant-garde/kraut-cowboy singer Georgio 'the Dove' Valentino and his Benelux backing band La Société des Mélancoliques cross the Channel for a UK tour. They have a forthcoming 7" collaboration with London's legendary punk outsider Vic Godard so it's time to venture forth into said lands. It's a cliché, I know, but the vibe is difficult to describe (unclassifiable, according to one reviewer below). The too-easy references are Nick Cave and Tindersticks. It's true: Valentino wears black and his songs are oppressively intimate. But he identifies rather more with early Roxy Music, latter-day Scott Walker, Tuxedomoon (whose members also frequently moonlight with Valentino), Vic Godard and Paul Quinn.
