Georgio 'The Dove' Valentino
American film-noir/avant-garde/kraut-cowboy singer Georgio 'the Dove' Valentino and his Benelux backing band La Société des Mélancoliques cross the Channel for a UK tour. They have a forthcoming 7" collaboration with London's legendary punk outsider Vic Godard so it's time to venture forth into said lands. It's a cliché, I know, but the vibe is difficult to describe (unclassifiable, according to one reviewer below). The too-easy references are Nick Cave and Tindersticks. It's true: Valentino wears black and his songs are oppressively intimate. But he identifies rather more with early Roxy Music, latter-day Scott Walker, Tuxedomoon (whose members also frequently moonlight with Valentino), Vic Godard and Paul Quinn.
Leo is the singer of Glasgow band, the Low Miffs. His new project: "Songs of revelry and balladry by Belgian master Jacques Brel, covering love, death and all that is in between. Leo Condie, as heard in Sylvain Chomet's The Illusionist, delivers passionate and gruesome interpretations of classics such as Amsterdam, Next, and The Gas."
