A short history, because their history is short:
The journey begins...
Micky got to know Phil and Vini through a mutual circle of friends. After a fantastic holiday spent with them all sharing time and music on The Isle of Eigg, Phil and Vini suggested jamming some of the tunes Micky has been quietly writing since his son was born. A room was hired, Chew was recruited and after a few great early sessions a commitment was made to form a band and find a much-needed bass player. In came Barney Strachan and The Marrs Effect was born.
After a few more rehearsals with Barney on board the tunes were developing and sounding good so a demo was recorded to get the music out there, get some feedback and start gigging. The demo was recorded over 24 hours at Chew's cottage near Peebles. Despite the hangovers the following morning, the resulting four tracks were completed and can be heard at myspace.com/themarrseffect.
The influences brought to the songs as a band are too many too mention here but can be heard in the music. This is an exciting combination of musicians who have an array of experience and accomplishments behind them and in these very early stages the potential of this band is evident.
The Marrs Effect continue to rehearse towards more recording and playing live throughout the rest of 2010 and beyond.
The journey continues...
Phil Hopwood (The Marrs Effect, formerly with The Fourmost and The Gillyflowers) and Lindsey Black (The Bevvy Sisters, The Loveboat Big Band and her own band Pollen) have come together as a powerful songwriting partnership. They played their debut gig at The Voodoo Rooms in April and have since been receiving many offers to play in Edinburgh and Glasgow. They have very recently received an endorsement from Tanglewood guitars so are recording their debut album later in the year to be released hopefully in 2010. They are also working towards writing the next Bond tune! From 7.30pm in The Speakeasy. Admission £5, no advance tickets.
