SUMMARY:Joshua Burnell
DESCRIPTION:Like an intergalactic troubadour who crash-landed last century\, Joshua Burnell makes retro chamber pop for the modern world. \n  \nFresh off the back of a UK tour including a growing number of sold out dates\, Burnell is unleashing his second tour and album this year: Condor Keep & Other Stories. \n  \nBorn in France\, but raised on the move\, including years in Linlithgow\, Kendal and Yorkshire\, the eclecticism of Joshua’s influences mirrors this restless movement. There are shades of 70s rock\, singer-songwriter folk and classical sophistication drawn together with a bookish edge. His music has been compared to The Decemberists\, Al Stewart and The Observer wrote: “much of it would fit comfortably in a Peter Gabriel-era Genesis set.” His show feels like poring over an anthology of otherworldly tales yet with the flamboyance and emotion of a stadium rock show. \n  \nSensitive to the social challenges we all face in today’s age\, Joshua creates universes to offer both a temporary escape but also to reflect today’s injustices through his characters and stories with the understanding that bringing people together is the remedy. The standing ovation he received at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention amongst numerous festivals is testament that people are starting to connect with this relentlessly creative artist. \n  \nThe Escape From Condor Keep Tour spans across the UK and Europe\, with some dates already sold out – one of them (aptly) a medieval keep in the Netherlands. Having received the thumbs up from BBC Radio 2’s Mark Radcliffe\, and backed by a stellar 5-piece band\, Joshua Burnell is not one to miss. \n \n  \nLinks\nwww.joshuaburnell.co.uk \n

SUMMARY:The Poozies
DESCRIPTION:The Poozies have been a popular mainstay on the scene since 1991. As an all-female group they were very much in the minority but they soared to success on the back of a television appearance on Shetland Sessions\, filmed live at the Shetland Folk Festival. \n  \nIt showed off their originality\, musicianship and great sense of fun\, and kick-started a long career of high-profile gigs and worldwide tours. Along with founding member Mary Macmaster and long-time cohort Eilidh Shaw other distinguished members of the band during this period included Kate Rusby\, Karen Tweed\, Sally Barker\, Mairearad Green and Patsy Seddon. A quieter time followed while children were born and raised\, and the inevitable shifting of priorities and relationships. \nIn 2015 the band came back with a bang! The grounding bass of Mary’s inimitable electro-harp and Eilidh’s lyrical west coast fiddle were joined by Orkney’s Sarah McFadyen and Oban’s Tia Files: two exceptional young multi-instrumentalists\, vocalists and composers. A whole new level of energy and creativity was born and the resulting 2018 album ‘Punch’ made a big impact on the scene. This Claire Button review sums it up quite nicely: \n‘Back in the early 1990s when the Poozies were nascent and had Kate Rusby as a member\, you’d have been pretty shocked if they’d come out with a line like: “We have to assume she’s all right / Up to her neck in her own shite.” But as the title of this their eighth studio album makes clear\, the girls don’t hold back these days… Macmaster’s electro-harp provides a grungy underbelly to the three fiddles and massed vocals of the rest of the group as they romp through a vividly diverse tracklist… Special mention must go to Sarah McFadyen’s grittily stunning Soaking in the Bathtub\, from whence the rather naughty line comes. The combination of McFadyen’s Orcadian accent and swooping voice with her kitchen-sink lyrics make this one of my tracks of the year so far. Rather like a punch\, therefore (either the alcoholic or the violent kind)\, this knocks you out.’ \n  \nUnfortunately lockdown came along and messed everything up for everybody. But the Poozies rose again and evolved into something even bigger and better. In 2023 they brought in the hugely-dynamic guitar powerhouse Michael Bryan\, and went on to experiment with various highly-acclaimed drummers. 2025 will see the fruits of this exciting progression with the release of brand new music and a ramped-up\, festival-headlining show. \n  \n \n  \n“..a mischievous mix of musical mayhem\, spellbinding showcase instrumentals….unencumbered by conventional folk idioms”\nJon Bennet\, folking.com \n“..this is the serenade of a rare butterfly in the ring with a will to take on the wind and win. The Poozies return undaunted and full of energy”\nIan D Hall\, Liverpool Sound and Vision \n  \n \nLinks\npoozies.co.uk \n

SUMMARY:Skating Polly & Lord Friday the 13th
DESCRIPTION:Skating Polly are hitting the road once again\, bringing their fearless “ugly-pop” vision to audiences alongside Los Angeles-via-Austin provocateurs Lord Friday the 13th for a tour that promises catharsis\, chaos\, and unfiltered punk energy. \n  \nFor more than a decade\, Skating Polly have carved out a singular place in modern punk\, evolving from youthful outsiders into one of the genre’s most inventive and emotionally resonant forces. With Chaos County Line\, the Oklahoma-bred trio—Kelli Mayo\, Peyton Bighorse and Kurtis Mayo—have pushed that evolution even further\, delivering an expansive double album that swings from art-punk abrasion to melodic power-pop while preserving the unruly spirit that has defined the band from the start. \n  \nBuilt around the raw honesty and experimental ambition of Chaos County Line\, the tour arrives as Skating Polly continue a creative high point fueled by some of their most vulnerable and explosive songwriting to date. Songs like “Hickey King\,” “I’m Sorry For Always Apologizing\,” and “Double Decker” showcase a band unafraid to confront identity\, obsession\, and emotional survival\, while channeling those themes into music that feels as exhilarating as it is confrontational. Long admired for turning personal chaos into communal release\, Skating Polly have made a career out of transforming punk into something both abrasive and deeply melodic—music that feels\, as Kelli Mayo has described it\, like armor. \n  \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:A Certain Ratio
DESCRIPTION:October 2026 Sextet and Force Anniversary tour \n  \nIn October ACR will be hitting the road to celebrate the Anniversary of their classic and beloved albums\, Sextet and Force.\nBoth albums will be played in full with an interval in between and some surprises thrown in. \nIt’s 45 years since ACR went into Revolution Studios in Cheadle Hulme\, Stockport to record the 1982 album Sextet and it’s 40 years since the release of the 1986 album Force which was also recorded in Stockport but at Yellow 2. Sextet is ACR’s most critically acclaimed album and it was the first album they produced as ACR\, it includes the majestic Lucinda and the live favourite Knife Slits Water. Force is one of their most commercial albums\, produced by ACR and the late Stuart (Jammer) James and is their last album on Factory Records\, it includes funky masterpiece Mickey Way and live party favourite Si Firmo O Grido. Each album is starkly different to each other yet very clearly ACR. \n“We’re celebrating these two milestones with this tour to say we are very excited is an understatement. It will be a real challenge\, which we’ve already started preparing for\, with nine months to go! We will be playing two sets with no support” \n \n \n \n“SEXTET is an album of the present\, killing the past and agreeably ignoring the future. It is an after-Rock Record. This is one of the most strategically tired albums you’ll hear all year. It is also one of the best.”\nSounds – 5 Stars \n \nLinks\nwww.acrmcr.com \n

SUMMARY:Jon Gomm
DESCRIPTION:Jon Gomm is a singer-songwriter and acoustic solo performer based in Yorkshire\, UK\, known for his once-seen-never-forgotten virtuoso guitar style. \nThis involves slapping\, tapping and retuning as he plays\, producing a huge\, multi-layered sound filled with bass\, drums and near-orchestral depth and complexity from a single guitar. His songs are often deeply emotive\, whether with or without his soft\, affecting voice. And his live performances are intimate and powerful\, but always punctured by his natural North Of England wit and self-deprecation. \nIn 2020 Jon was voted “Best Acoustic Guitarist In The World” in the largest online poll of its type\, conducted by MusicRadar / Guitar World. Ibanez guitars launched the JGM10 and JGM5 Jon Gomm Signature Model guitars in 2021. He’s the 3rd guitarist ever to design a signature acoustic with Ibanez\, the previous two being Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. \nIn 2023\, Jon’s song Passionflower was placed 6th in Total Guitar’s “50 Greatest Acoustic Guitar Songs Of All Time”\, just behind The Beatles’ Blackbird and Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton. Jon is also a passionate advocate for mental health and neuro-diversity. \n \n \n \n“Once you get over the jaw dropping manoeuvres and technique\, you will be rewarded with some spectacularly beautiful songs.”\nBlues & Soul magazine (UK) \n“One of the world’s most gifted and inspirational guitar players.”\nAcoustic Magazine (UK) \n“Hands down the most amazing guitarist I have ever seen!”\nTommy Lee\, Motley Crue \n \nLinks\nwww.jongomm.com \n

SUMMARY:cancelled - Mr Bruce
DESCRIPTION:Both as The Correspondents and a solo artist\, Mr Bruce has achieved cult status for his live shows taking him as far as New Zealand\, Australia and Chile where he played in front of audiences of over 10\,000 fans\, both old and new. Maniacal and balletic\, his performance lands somewhere between contemporary dance and rave. \n  \n\nFollowing a summer packed full of festival dates\, Mr Bruce will venture throughout his home country for his largest ever headline tour in support of his highly anticipated debut album\, OK\, released on state51 on 15th May 2026. \nOK is a multi-genre masterpiece produced by Angus Kemp spanning hyperpop\, garage\, hip hop and ambient with guest vocals from legendary musician Brian Eno\, cult US rapper Homeboy Sandman and emerging UK talent HAM. Together they navigate the subjects of grief\, protest and a love of the ocean with extraordinary energy\, dexterity and depth. \nLooking ahead to the tour this Autumn\, Mr Bruce said “I have found over the years that gigs/clubs/festivals that I’ve played have gone from being about the pursuit of hedonism to something else. There’s still all the dancing and raucous energy\, but there’s also space created for a little catharsis if that’s what you need. Many of the songs that I’ve made are designed for the dancefloor\, but the lyrics are about processing grief and standing in defiance of systems built to oppress and divide us. For my new live show I want to make a space for collective engagement with the complexity of our volatile world along with the release of dancing and shaking it all out with a room full of people.” \n\n\n \n \nLinks\nwww.mrbruce.co.uk \n

SUMMARY:The Real People
DESCRIPTION:The Real People were formed by Tony and Chris Griffiths in 1988. \n  \nSigned to CBS in Dec 1989 they released their eponymously named debut album including the singles Window Pane\, Open Up Your Mind and The Truth in 1991. The band then embarked on a series of successful British\, European\, American and Japanese tours\, also appearing at Glastonbury and supporting major artists such as The Pixies\, David Bowie and Inspiral Carpets to name a few. \nThe Realies (as they are known to their fans) then recorded their second album Marshmallow Lane with the help of legendary producer Jimmy Miller (Rolling Stones etc). This album provided the Top 40 single ‘Believer’. \nWhilst touring with Inspiral Carpets\, Chris and Tony took the then Inspirals roadie Noel Gallagher under their wing\, along with his brother Liam and the rest of Oasis. The Real People invited Oasis into their studio to develop and record the new band\, resulting in the now famous Live Demonstration Tape which subsequently secured them a major deal with Alan McGee and Creation Records. Once signed by Creation\, Chris and Tony were instrumental in the recording of Oasis’ first single ‘Supersonic’\, with Tony providing the backing vocals. Chris also co-wrote the B-side to ‘Roll With It’ entitled ‘Rockin’ Chair’ which helped set Oasis on the path to becoming world wide stars and the biggest band of the past 30 years. The Real People also inspired several other Oasis songs such as ‘Columbia’ and ‘Don’t Go Away’. Around this time Chris and Tony continued writing and developing other artists – including writing a Top 10 single for Cher and others. \n  \nIn 1996 The Real People signed to MGL Records and released their third album ‘What’s On The Outside’ which included the singles ‘Rolling Stone’\, ‘Rayners Lane’ and ’People In The Telly’. The band also embarked on tours including numerous tours with their good friends Ocean Colour Scene\, Paul Weller and Simple Minds. The Real People continued writing and touring for the next few years resulting in their now cult following and new albums ’Think Positive’ and ‘Monday Morning Breakdown’. \n \n

SUMMARY:Juni Habel
DESCRIPTION:  \nJuni Habel’s fragile finger-picked lullabies warm themselves by the open fire with her rich intimate voice atop twinkling arrangements and strange percussive instrumentation. \nLike glowing embers in the dark\, these songs are odes to life and death\, the beauty of belonging and human kinship with nature. \n  \nThe Norwegian’s first album in three-years ‘Evergreen In Your Mind’ was released this Spring on Basin Rock\, follows her breakthroug ‘Carvings’ LP. The songs remain delicate\, Habel’s voice playing an elegant lead role – but there are fluctuations too. The small shifts in Habel’s sound mark a notable stride forward\, with more focus on the groove. Playfulness was embraced and\, perhaps most importantly\, patience played a fundamental role in shaping every element of this incredible set of torch folk songs. Brushed with the gentle touch of pastoral psychedelia\, these are songs that sit in half-light\, in the gas between where we are and where we might be. \n \n \n \n“one of the finest folk albums in recent memory.”\nBandcamp ‘Album of the Day’ \n“This is the perfect Spring album.”\nNPR \n“life affirming songs that establish Habel as a distinctive\, modern folk voice.”\nUncut \n \nLinks\njunihabel.bandcamp.com \n

SUMMARY:The Boneshakers
DESCRIPTION:THE BONESHAKERS – led by world-renowned guitarist Randy Jacobs (Was (Not Was))\, The Boneshakers deliver a high-octane blend of Detroit soul\, Muscle Shoals R&B\, funk\, and blues that hits hard every night. Band members have toured and recorded with legends including Bonnie Raitt\, B.B. King\, Buddy Guy\, Aretha Franklin\, Keb’ Mo’\, Seal\, Elton John\, Bob Dylan\, Stevie Wonder\, Iggy Pop\, and more. \n  \nFormed in the mid-’90s by Jacobs and the late\, great Sweetpea Atkinson\, The Boneshakers quickly built a reputation for groove-driven\, powerhouse performances and acclaimed recordings on Virgin/Pointblank Records. Over the years\, the band has released a string of celebrated albums\, earned major blues and independent music awards\, and collaborated with artists like Mindi Abair and Joe Bonamassa. The legacy continues. \nToday’s lineup features electrifying vocalist Jenny Langer—Virginia Blues Hall of Fame inductee and International Blues Challenge winner—bringing fresh fire to the band’s unmistakable sound. Their recent releases have topped UK Blues and US Soul Blues charts\, earned Billboard Top 10 status\, and drawn praise from Rolling Stone and Blues Matters. A Boneshakers show is pure groove\, soul\, and swagger—don’t miss it. \nPAUL ROSE – Born in Newcastle\, England in July 1966\, is without doubt one of the most unique and talented guitarists in the world today. Fundamentally a rock guitarist\, his extraordinary playing style touches on blues\, country\, jazz and folk\, blended together into a style that is entirely his own. Never a gig goes by where audience members don’t comment that Paul is the best guitarist they’ve seen and heard. \nRory Gallagher awarded Paul a Fender ’62 Reissue Strat\, with a Vox AC30\, in a Fender sponsored competition that invited guitarists from all over the UK to appear in local music shops. Entrants were required to play in front of a video camera using the guitar and amp in question\, without any pedals\, to be edited and shown to Rory at a later date. Out of 1000 guitarists\, Rory selected Paul as the winner and described him as ‘a hot player with a hot future.’ Having also won ‘Guitarist of the Year’ in Guitarist Magazine a couple of years later\, it is plainly obvious that Paul is a force to be reckoned with. \nPaul has worked as a producer/artist/session guitarist with Ted McKenna (drummer with The Sensational Alex Harvey Band\, Rory Gallagher\, Micheal Schenker\, Bobby Womack)\, Gerry McAvoy (bassist with Rory Gallagher for 25 years)\, Randy Brecker (The Brecker Brothers)\, Bill Evans (tenor sax Miles Davis\, Mick Jagger\, Herbie Hancock\, Derek Trucks) & John ‘Rabbit’ Bundrick (Free\, Bob Marley and the Wailers\, Jon Martyn\, Pete Townsend and 30 years with The Who) amongst others. \nHis last album ‘Double Life’ was recorded at the Steakhouse\, Hollywood\, CA which Paul co produced with multi Grammy award winner John Wooler (Gary Moore\, Johnny Winter\, john Lee Hooker\, Albert Collins). The album featured Terry Evans on vocals (35 years with Ry Cooder)\, Richie Morales on drums (Al Demeola\, The Brecker Brothers\, Mike Stern)\, Randy Jacobs on rhythm guitar (Elton John\, Kris Kristofferson\, Was Not Was)\, Bernard Fowler lead vocals (backing vocals with the Rolling Stones for 25 years) & Sweat Pea Atkinson on vocals (Was Not Was\, Lyle Lovett). The album received 5 star reviews across the board\, and gig of the month for London during the album tour. \n \n \n \nLinks\nwww.officialboneshakers.com \n
