DESCRIPTION:  \nBlack Bordello are an art-rock band from London\, fronted by Sienna Bordello\, whose emotive soprano and macabre lyricism have been compared to the likes of Björk\, Kate Bush\, and Siouxsie & the Banshees. \n  \nSpearheaded by Sienna’s operatic vocals and vivid\, fragmented songwriting\, their metamorphic brand of alternative rock is enchanted with elements of vaudeville\, post-punk\, jazz\, psychedelia\, gothic rock and chamber pop. DESCRIPTION:Penetration formed in Ferryhill\, County Durham in 1976 at the very beginning of the punk rock phenomenon. An exciting live prospect\, respected by peers and dedicated fans\, the group signed to Virgin Records in 1977 and released their first single\, the punk classic ‘Don’t Dictate’\, that Autumn.  \nTheir debut album\, ‘Moving Targets’\, was released in 1978 to critical acclaim and commercial success (reaching no. 22 in the UK album chart) and showcased a confident outfit that had already expanded its musical and creative vision. Their bass\, drums and twin guitar line-up became a distinctive feature of the band’s sound\, while singer Pauline Murray’s fearless yet vulnerable vocals fitted perfectly with their anthemic and often complex song arrangements. \nThey toured constantly and after a lengthy US trek in the early summer of 1979 returned to make their second album\, ‘Coming Up For Air’. Produced by Steve Lillywhite\, the sessions were rushed and caused tension in the ranks\, but even so produced excellent songs such as ‘Come Into The Open’ (released as a single) and ‘Shout Above The Noise’ that ensured a healthy Top 40 chart placing for the finished record. However\, a combination of stress and pressure from both label and management proved telling factors when Murray announced onstage at Newcastle City Hall that Penetration were splitting up upon completion of their Autumn UK tour. \nMurray and bass player Robert Blamire continued to write together and teamed up with producer\, Martin Hannett to record the proto dream pop single ‘Dream Sequence’ with The Invisible Girls. Released in August 1980\, it was swiftly followed by the Top 30 album ‘Pauline Murray And The Invisible Girls’ (reissued to rave notices by Factory Benelux in 2014) and a tour with John Cooper Clarke. That same year\, Murray also provided guest vocals on the swan song album release by The Only Ones\, ‘Baby’s Got A Gun’ (including the single ‘Fools’)\, while Blamire began an association with the highly rated Scars that resulted in him producing their acclaimed ‘Author Author!’ album. \nIn 2002\, Murray was persuaded to reform Penetration. Of its original members\, only Murray\, Blamire and drummer Gary Smallman remained\, with guitarists Steve Wallace and Paul Harvey (who appeared on the ‘Storm Clouds’ album) augmenting the line-up. Over the ensuing years they have played numerous live shows\, including regular appearances at the UK’s Rebellion punk music festival. They have also released two 7” singles (both on the Damaged Goods label)\, in 2015\, following a crowd funding campaign\, Penetration released their first album in 36 years\, Resolution\, augmented by former Buzzcock John Maher on drums and mixed by original guitarist Fred Purser. \nFurther line up changes have ensued over the following years\, as Penetration have continued to play high profile shows and festivals\, including Bearded Theory and Rebellion\, and 2024 saw them tour the UK playing their debut album Moving Targets in full. DESCRIPTION:Lydia Lunch has crossed paths with Alan Vega and Martin Rev of Suicide upon arrival in New York at age 16\, in the late ’70s. \nThe first Suicide show she attended was a real shock – a revelation of a new form of concert: a total show\, theatrical\, free\, violent. Since then\, a close relationship\, as much artistic as friendship\, has united them. Lydia Lunch performed on “Frankie Teardrop” by Suicide on stage and on record\, and she sang a duet with Alan Vega on the album SNIPER by Alan Vega and Marc Hurtado in 2010. \nMarc Hurtado\, had already met Alan Vega and Lydia Lunch on his Etant Donnés RE-UP album “Be” in 1999 and he formed the project My Lover The Killer in 2013 with Lydia Lunch\, with whom they recorded an album and played on stage. \nSince 2014\, Lydia Lunch and Marc Hurtado have joined forces for events based around Suicide and Alan Vega songs. It will be a kind of sonic “Blitzkrieg” and a visual shamanic ceremony\, where both artists will burn their souls in the volcanic heart of the music of Suicide and Alan Vega. \nLydia Lunch is a nomadic gypsy in eternal metamorphosis that almost lost her life for her art dozens of times in 35 years. Musician\, writer\, photographer and performance artist\, she appeared on the New York music scene in 1977 with the No Wave pioneers\, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. In search of inspiration and cooperation she worked with Karen Finley\, Hubert Selby Jr\, Nick Cave\, William Burroughs or Virginie Despentes\, she lived in New York\, Brooklyn\, New Orleans\, San Francisco\, Pittsburgh\, Los Angeles\, London. She has visited 656 cities to perform on stage for concerts\, spoken-word\, installations in clubs\, theatres and museums. \nMarc Hurtado is a musician\, performer\, poet\, painter\, producer and filmmaker who co-founded the French duo ETANT DONNES with his brother Eric in 1977. He has made more than 20 albums and played concerts around the world in places like Kitchen ( New York)\, the Fondation Cartier (Paris)\, the Centre Pompidou (Paris)\, the Sonar Festival (Barcelona)\, the Atonal Festival (Berlin)\, and Transmusicales (Rennes). \nApart from this duo and solo project Sol Ixent\, he has collaborated with many cult figures including Alan Vega\, Genesis P.Orridge\, Michael Gira (Swans)\, Gabi Delgado (DAF)\, Craig Walker ( Archive)\, Pascal Comelade\, Z’ev\, Philippe Grandrieux\, Christophe\, Saba Komossa (Delkom)\, Mark Cunningham (MARS)\, Bachir Attar and the Master Musicians of Jajouka. DESCRIPTION:Known for his arresting\, husky vocals and gritty\, blues-infused pop/rock\, Dan Owen is a British alternative singer/songwriter from Shropshire\, England. \nOwen became interested in music at an early age\, taking up guitar at nine years old and performing with his sister\, who had taken up singing. Their Dad encouraged them to perform at open-mike events at local pubs throughout their teens. After his sister left for University\, Owen took to performing solo and began appearing at live events at various pubs and clubs throughout the area surrounding Shropshire. Performing under the name “Bluesboy Dan”\, he gradually earned a committed fan base with his passionate versions of songs by artists such as Robert Johnson and John Lee Hooker while also focusing on writing his own material. \nIn 2012 an online video of the young guitarist performing Bob Dylan’s “The Ballad of Hollis Brown” began to generate widespread attention. After a couple more years of relentless performing in which he began to include his own songs\, he was signed to Atlantic Records in 2015 and put out his debut EP\, Bad for Me\, later that year. In 2016 he put out his second EP\, Open Hands & Enemies\, before a European tour with Birdy as support act. \nHe then spent 2017 writing and recording his debut full-length effort. The album — titled Stay Awake with Me — arrived in August 2018. Owen promoted the record with a U.K. and European tour that fall. Dan has toured UK and Europe with the likes of Kaleo\, Alice Merton\, Tall Heights\, Seafret\, 2 tours with Birdy\, a full US tour with Blanco White\, other supports from Manfred Man\, Valarie Dune\, Paul Jones\, Brian Adams and our very own Wille and the Bandits. \nThe second album from the Shrewsbury troubadour landed on Nov 24th. The Willow Tree is Dan Owen’s most honest and real music to date. SUMMARY:China Crisis
DESCRIPTION:Liverpool originals China Crisis have always made music that’s far easier to love than to define. For more than four decades now Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon\, collectively better known as China Crisis\, have been writing and performing some of the most distinctive\, catchy and sophisticated pop songs out there\, from “Wishful Thinking”\, “Black Man Ray”\, and “King in a Catholic Style” to “Christian”\, “Arizona Sky” and “Down Here on Earth”. \nThe band originally emerged in 1981 from their native Kirkby as the songwriting duo of vocalist/keyboardist Daly and guitarist/vocalist Lundon\, who have been working together ever since. Citing influences as varied as Brian Eno\, Davie Bowie\, Stevie Wonder\, Eric Satie and Talking Heads\, it’s not surprising that their sound was quickly distinguishable amongst their peers\, combining synthpop with reggae\, country and other styles with their own unique melodies and harmonies to create distinctively sophisticated but catchy pop in a style all its own. Their 2024 release China Greatness (featuring elevated\, cinematic new arrangements of the \nsongwriters’ own favourite tracks from across their catalogue\, and mixed by multiple-Grammy award winner Mark Phythian) peaked in the album charts at record-setting levels for the band\, and their recent tours around the globe have served to both build the loyalty of existing fans and entice new legions of ardent new followers in the process. DESCRIPTION:The Icicle Works were formed in 1981 by Robert Ian McNabb of Kensington\, Liverpool. \nThe original line-up; McNabb\, Chris Layhe and Chris Sharrock scored big with their first album in 1984 which yielded the hit singles ‘Love Is A Wonderful Colour’ (#15 UK chart) and ‘Birds Fly (Whisper To A Scream)’ – which was a Top 30 single in the Billboard chart. \nThey had four Top 40 UK albums which contained a run of classic 45s; ‘Hollow Horse’\, ‘Understanding Jane’\, ‘Who Do You Want For Your Love’\, ‘Evangeline’\, ‘When It All Comes Down’\, ‘Little Girl Lost’ and ‘High Time’. \nMcNabb is considered one of the best singer/songwriters of his generation. His fearlessness\, range of styles and particularly his oft-radical eclecticism sets him apart from many of his contemporaries. \nIn 1990 McNabb recorded the final album to bear the Icicle Works name ‘Permanent Damage’. \nIn 1991 McNabb began a successful solo career – releasing many highly-regarded albums including ‘Head Like A Rock’ which was nominated for the 1994 Mercury Prize. His last single Let The Young Girl Do What She Wants To reached #29 in 2005. He has recently released his 26th studio album ‘If It Wasn’t For The Music’. \nAlongside his ongoing solo work he has worked with Ringo Starr\, The Waterboys\, Neil Young and Crazy Horse and the Lightning Seeds amongst others. \nBirds Fly (Whisper To A Scream) was featured in ‘Stranger Things’ (Netflix) which introduced McNabb’s work to a new generation. \nSince 2006 McNabb has regularly taken The Icicle Works out on the live circuit with Roy Corkill (bass)\, Richard Naiff (keys) and Nick Kilroe (drums). \nRoy Corkill sadly passed away aged 60 in 2024. \nThe current line-up is Ian McNabb\, Richard Naiff and Nick Kilroe. \n“We felt a power-trio was the way to go. Generation X were an English punk rock band\, formed in London in 1976. They were the musical starting point of the career of their frontman Billy Idol and issued six singles that made the UK singles chart and two albums that reached the UK Albums Chart. The band’s UK hit singles include ‘Your Generation’\, ‘Ready Steady Go’\, ‘King Rocker’ and ‘Valley of the Dolls.’ \nMark Laff started his career as the drummer for the cult band Subway Sect on the notorious Clash White Riot Tour before joining Generation X. In 2007 he reunited with the original Subway Sect lineup and recorded the songs from the tour with the album ‘1978 Now.’ In 1980 Laff formed the post-punk band Empire. Despite little commercial success\, Empire’s album ‘Expensive Sound’ was highly influential. Writing in The Guardian\, Fugazi’s Guy Picciotto described Empire’s one album as “awkward\, unambitious and with only one album\, the trio still left a huge mark\, influencing the Stone Roses as well as the entire DC hardcore scene”. \nIn 1985 Laff formed Twenty Flight Rockers and signed to WEA releasing the fans favourite ‘Tower Block Rock’ and ‘Johnny 7.’ Mark Laff looking forward to the tour commented: “For those who kept the faith\, I promise not to disappoint with this new exciting lineup. I feel it’s important that XGENERATIONX bring new life to the iconic songs from the 1st and 2nd Generation X albums.” \nIn addition to Mark Laff\, the new lineup includes renowned pop rock/rockabilly star Elizabeth Westwood on vocals. Elizabeth fronted the hit 80s band Westworld\, who had success with the UK #11 single ‘Sonic Boom Boy’ and a further UK hit with ‘Ba-Na-Na-Bam-Boo.’ Elizabeth’s connections to Generation X include being in Westworld with guitarist Bob Andrews as well as being his partner at the time. Later on\, Elizabeth was married to James Stevenson who ultimately replaced Andrews as the guitarist Generation X’s final iteration\, Gen X\, in 1980/81. \nXGENERATIONX is poised to capture the spirit of Generation X and its songs while pushing the boundaries of their sound in exciting new directions. Joining Mark Laff and Elizabeth Westwood on this explosive tour is legendary multi-instrumentalist Steve Norman from Spandau Ballet. \nA founding member of one of the most iconic bands of the 80s\, Steve is best known for his dynamic saxophone solos and charismatic stage presence. As Spandau Ballet’s guitarist on the first two albums\, he helped shape the band’s distinctive New Romantic sound\, which saw global hits like ‘To Cut a Long Story Short’\, ‘True’\, ‘Gold’\, and ‘Through the Barricades’ dominate the charts. Steve’s creative energy and fearless approach to performance – in Spandau Ballet and its punk predecessor The Makers – make him the perfect addition to the XGENERATIONX lineup. His musical versatility and edgy guitar sounds will add a fresh dimension to the band’s punk anthems. Reflecting on the collaboration Steve Norman said: “Generation X were the rebels with guitars\, the punk poets of their time. Teaming up with Mark and Elizabeth to push these songs into a new era is going to be something really special. We’re ready to turn up the volume and make some noise!”. \nMichael Giaquinto joins XGENERATIONX on bass. Michael began his playing career with 90s Essex nihilists\, Maniac Squat and enjoyed some success with the single ‘Fuck Off’. He went on to perform in renowned punk band Vice Squad for eight years\, playing bass on multiple recordings and touring extensively around Europe and the United States at festivals and clubs such as the legendary CBGBs.
